Returns & Warranty Policy
Last Updated: 6 October 2026
K & R Motor Spares supplies used automotive parts and components. Because these products have previously been used, their age, appearance, wear, and condition may vary.
This Returns & Warranty Policy explains how returns, exchanges, defective products, compatibility issues, and warranty claims are handled.
Nothing in this policy is intended to exclude or limit any rights that a customer may have under applicable South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 (CPA).
1. Used Parts and Product Condition
Unless specifically described otherwise, products sold by K & R Motor Spares are used automotive parts.
Used components may show reasonable signs of previous use, including:
- Scratches
- Marks
- Discolouration
- Surface wear
- Dirt or residue
- Minor cosmetic imperfections
Such characteristics do not necessarily mean that a component is defective.
Where practical, customers should inspect the product, photographs, identification numbers, and condition before purchasing.
2. Check Compatibility Before Purchase
Vehicle compatibility is particularly important when purchasing used car parts.
Before completing a purchase, customers should provide accurate vehicle information where relevant, including:
- Vehicle make
- Model
- Model year
- VIN/chassis number
- Engine size
- Engine code
- Gearbox code
- Existing part number
- Transmission type
- Left/right or front/rear position
Photographs of the original component and its identification labels may also help.
K & R Motor Spares may assist with identifying a potentially suitable part, but customers and their installers should verify compatibility before installation.
3. Inspect Parts Before Installation
Customers should inspect purchased parts before installation, modification, painting, cutting, programming, or alteration.
Check:
- Part numbers
- Connectors
- Mounting points
- Dimensions
- Physical condition
- Vehicle application
- Left/right orientation
- Engine or transmission codes where applicable
If something appears incorrect, contact K & R Motor Spares before installing or altering the component.
4. Incorrect Parts
If you believe that you received a part different from the one agreed upon, contact K & R Motor Spares as soon as reasonably possible.
Please provide:
- Proof of purchase
- Product details
- Vehicle details
- Relevant part numbers
- Clear photographs
- Description of the issue
Do not install or modify a component that you reasonably believe is incorrect.
We will assess the matter and provide an appropriate remedy where required under the circumstances and applicable law.
5. Defective Parts
If a purchased component appears to be defective, contact us promptly with information about the problem.
We may reasonably request information necessary to assess the claim, such as:
- Proof of purchase
- Photographs
- Videos
- Diagnostic information
- Installation information
- Vehicle information
- Part numbers
- A technician’s assessment where appropriate
Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, an appropriate remedy may include repair, replacement, exchange, or refund.
6. Consumer Protection Act
Where the Consumer Protection Act or other applicable South African law provides a customer with statutory rights concerning defective, unsafe, or unsuitable goods, those rights will apply.
Nothing in this policy is intended to remove rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be waived or excluded.
This is particularly important because contractual warranty wording should not be presented as replacing statutory consumer rights.
7. Change-of-Mind Returns
A customer changing their mind is different from receiving a defective or incorrectly supplied product.
For an ordinary change-of-mind request where no statutory right of return applies, acceptance of the return may depend on the circumstances and the condition of the product.
Contact K & R Motor Spares before returning any component.
Any voluntary return accepted by us should generally be returned in substantially the same condition in which it was supplied and with proof of purchase.
This section does not affect any return right that applies under law.
8. Engines
Used engines require careful compatibility verification and professional installation.
Before purchasing an engine, customers should verify relevant information such as:
- Engine code
- Engine capacity
- Fuel type
- Vehicle model
- Production year
- VIN/chassis number
- Relevant part numbers
Before installation, the engine should be inspected and, where appropriate, serviced according to good automotive practice.
Customers should discuss any specific engine warranty or testing conditions with K & R Motor Spares before purchase.
Do not assume that an engine is compatible merely because it appears physically similar to the original engine.
9. Gearboxes and Transmissions
Before purchasing a gearbox or transmission, customers should verify:
- Gearbox/transmission code
- Manual or automatic specification
- Vehicle make and model
- Model year
- Engine specification
- VIN/chassis number where applicable
- Relevant part numbers
Customers should confirm any component-specific warranty conditions before purchase.
10. Electrical and Electronic Parts
Electrical and electronic components can be affected by vehicle faults, incorrect diagnosis, wiring problems, voltage irregularities, coding requirements, programming, or incorrect installation.
These may include:
- ECUs and control modules
- Alternators
- Starter motors
- Sensors
- Electronic modules
- Switches
- Fuel-system electronics
- Electronic steering components
- Lights and electronic assemblies
Customers should have the vehicle properly diagnosed before replacing an electrical component.
Where coding, programming, calibration, or adaptation is required, this should be performed correctly by an appropriately qualified person.
Any statutory rights concerning defective goods remain unaffected.
11. Body Parts, Lights, and Mirrors
Customers purchasing body panels, bumpers, lights, mirrors, and similar components should verify:
- Vehicle model
- Model generation
- Model year
- Facelift/pre-facelift specification where relevant
- Left/right position
- Mounting points
- Electrical connectors and features where applicable
Body parts should be test-fitted before painting or permanent modification where reasonably possible.
12. Installation
We recommend that mechanical, electrical, safety-related, and compatibility-sensitive components be installed by an appropriately qualified or experienced automotive professional.
Problems caused by incorrect installation, misuse, unauthorised modification, incorrect application, or an unrelated vehicle fault may not constitute a defect in the supplied component.
However, each claim will be considered according to its facts and applicable law.
13. Altered or Damaged Parts
A return or warranty assessment may be affected where a component has been:
- Physically modified
- Cut or welded
- Incorrectly installed
- Dismantled unnecessarily
- Damaged after supply
- Used for an unintended application
- Damaged by another faulty vehicle component
This does not remove statutory rights where the product itself was defective and applicable law provides a remedy.
14. Warranty Periods
Because K & R Motor Spares sells different categories of used automotive components, do not assume that every product carries the same additional commercial warranty period.
Any specific warranty offered by K & R Motor Spares should be confirmed on the invoice, product documentation, or at the time of sale.
Where applicable law provides rights or remedies independently of an additional commercial warranty, those statutory rights remain applicable.
This wording is important until you decide exactly what warranty you want to offer on engines, gearboxes, electrical parts, and ordinary mechanical parts.
15. Proof of Purchase
Customers making a return or warranty claim should provide reasonable proof of purchase.
This may include:
- Sales invoice
- Receipt
- Order confirmation
- Other transaction information that reasonably identifies the purchase
Keep your proof of purchase after buying a used part.
16. Returning a Product
Do not send or deliver a product back without first contacting K & R Motor Spares.
Contact us and explain:
- Which part was purchased.
- When it was purchased.
- What vehicle it was intended for.
- What problem has occurred.
- Whether the part has been installed.
- Whether any diagnostic testing has been performed.
We will advise you on the next appropriate step.
17. Return Transport Costs
Responsibility for transport or delivery costs associated with a return will depend on the reason for the return, the circumstances of the transaction, any agreement between the parties, and applicable law.
Where K & R Motor Spares is legally responsible for a remedy, the matter will be handled in accordance with the applicable legal requirements.
18. Refunds
Where a refund is determined to be the appropriate remedy, it will be processed using a reasonable method agreed or permitted under the circumstances.
The processing time may depend on the original payment method, financial institution, and transaction circumstances.
We will not impose a policy that overrides a customer’s mandatory statutory refund rights.
19. Exchanges
Where an exchange is appropriate and a suitable replacement component is available, K & R Motor Spares may arrange an exchange.
Because used parts inventory changes frequently, an identical replacement may not always be available.
Where an identical component is unavailable, we will address the matter according to the circumstances and applicable consumer law.
20. Warranty Claim Assessment
Submitting a warranty claim does not automatically establish the cause of a component failure.
Where reasonably necessary, K & R Motor Spares may inspect the component or request supporting information to determine whether the issue relates to:
- A defect in the component
- Compatibility
- Installation
- Vehicle-related faults
- External damage
- Modification
- Normal characteristics of a used component
Any assessment will be subject to applicable consumer law.
